Overview about the ATLAS experiment
ATLAS-Detektor ATLAS is one of four planned detectors for the future proton-proton accelerator LHC at CERN in Geneva. The experiment is in the phase of construction and commissioning. The start of data taking is scheduled for 2008.
The ATLAS group of LMU Munich is participating in detector and software development of the muon spectrometer. This spectrometer consists of several layers of monitored drift tubes chambers. These chambers are built in joint effort together with other physics departments from all over the world.
A fraction of chamers are built at MPI Munich. These chambers are tested for their efficiency at the cosmic ray test facility of LMU Munich.
Our group is also involved into studies of searches form physics beyond the standard model and measurements of the top-quark.
Furthermore we are involved in the development of Grid computing and commissioning of Tier1/2 centers.
