Busy times during End of Year Technical Stop

All Systems stopped and waiting its yearly maintenance

07.12.2023

The measurement campaign of LHC and ATLAS for 2023 is completed. All systems have been stopped for the yearly maintenance. This is a busy time for physicists, engineers, and technicians. The detector is usally opened for maintenance work. This means moving the huge detector modules from the nominal position into a parking position. And of course, all cables, pipes and other services have to be moved as well. Great care is required not to squeeze and eventually cut a cable or pipe when the several tons of detector module are moved into the parking position. Until spring 2024 the maintenance work will be finished, the ATLAS detector reassembled, and all the many components commissioned for the restart of the measurements. And for sure, no cable will be forgotten and each connector will be plugged back to where it belongs!
