Ready for run 3: Beams back in ATLAS

LHC gets started for run 3: “Beams splashes” seen by ATLAS

ATLAS has recorded “beam splash” events from the LHC signalling the coming start of run 3.

Beam splashes are created when circulating protons hit collimators in the beam pipe, leaving a spray of particles to cross the ATLAS detector.
