Maximilian Rinnagel's Successful PhD Defense

01.08.2023

We want to take the oppurtunity to congratulate Maximilian Rinnagel for successfully passing his PhD exam on the 1st of August 2023.

Max' research was on Micro-Pattern Gaseous Detectors with a focus on photon detection. A Cherenkov radiator made out of a LiF crystal (20 mm thick) was used on top of a resistive strip Micromegas detector for the detector prototype. For the detection of the photons, a converter layer made out of 15 nm thick CsI is necessary which has to be carefully produced. Here photons are converted to electrons and can be detected in the Micromegas. The thesis showed that these Cherenkov photons can be fundamentally detected and show a distinct signal timing in the prototype detector.
