Masterclass am MPI
Schülerveranstaltung zur Einführung in moderne Teilchendetektorexperimente
04.11.2025
In 2025 we had the opportunity to offer a very special look behind the scenes of particle detectors together with the Max Planck Institute for Physics (MPP) and TUM for a class of interested laboratory technician students from Wiesbaden. On the 4th of November, MPP invited the class to experience particle physics and cutting edge research with talks introducing the research fields, that particle physics groups in Munich specialise on. The day started with talks by Nick Schneider, introducing the ATLAS detector using the example of gaseous detectors, and Prof. Thomas Kuhr, introducing the Belle II detector. Lastly, an insight to the Icecube experiment was presented by Dr. Chiara Bellenghi. After a lunch at the IPP cafeteria the group was split and got the chance to visit both the MPP laboratories and the underground laboratory for astroparticle research at TUM. With lively discussions and a great collaboration of all particle physics group at the Garching campus the event came to a successful end.

Thank you to all speakers and guides for the visits, for their expertise and motivation to share their knowledge with the students. A special thanks to MPP for offering the venue and to Barbara Wankerl, Veronika Kratzer, Petra Riedel and Celine Stauch for the great collaboration in organizing this event. And lastly, thanks to everyone, who helped making this event such a great success.
